Volunteer to help with our senior gift 2009 by emailing “Wellesley College Senior Gift” on FirstClass.
Not sure what senior gift is or its purpose? Here are some details recently posted on the ‘09 conference:
…the gift is not a concrete object. Instead it is an amount of money that your class raises to give to the college. For senior gift, you have the option of unrestricted or another designation that the class feels ultimately tied to. For example ‘07 raised money for International Student Financial Aid, ‘06 established an emergency student aid fund, and ‘05 had a portion of their gift go towards a CWS internship.
We are less focused on the amount of the gift so much as the # of students that participate. Some students are able and will give more, while others give a participation gift to be included in our participation numbers. As an incentive, any senior who donates $35 or more is able to nominate a Wellesley faculty or staff member(S) into an appreciation society. The records for participation are held by 2000 and 2004 with 90%.
If you have any more questions, feel free to join the conversation on FirstClass!
Best, Samantha

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our first senior year survey! Class President, Alice Chen, just posted some of the survey results on the conference today. So for those of you without FirstClass access over the summer, I thought I would post her message and the results here.
Message from Alice: Survey results have been posted in the Senior Week and Senior Gala conferences. Take a look at them when you get a chance and please post your thoughts/responses to the respective conferences. We will definitely be recruiting people from our class to help out with the planning of Senior Week and we’d like for as many seniors to be involved as possible (seriously - help is greatly needed and the more the merrier). Please take advantage of the summer to brainstorm before we all get together in the fall to prepare for the planning ahead of us.
Senior Week Results:
Top 5 Senior Week events # Yes / # Responses:
Senior Gala 76.9% 280/364
Bonfire 69.5% 244/351
Wine Tasting 67.5% 239/354
Concert on Sev Green 65.4% 232/355
Red Sox game 63.0% 226/359
Bottom 5 Senior Week events # No / # Responses:

Duck Tour 55.8% 191/342
Casino Trip 51.7% 180/348
Field Day (sports) 45.9% 157/342
We also got a bunch of really great suggestions (including water balloon fight on Sev Green, jazz club, history of Wellesley tour, BSO/Boston Ballet, and others) that we can look into if people are interested. Please feel free to respond with additional suggestions or thoughts on survery results.
Senior Gala Results:
Gala at Wellesley (369 responses):
Yes 23.0%
Maybe 39.3%
Leaning towards no 27.1%
Extremely opposed 10.6%
Top Responses to food preferences # / Total Responses:
Sit-down dinner Doesn’t Matter Much - 60.9% 224/368
Buffet Doesn’t Matter Much - 60.3% 222/368
Tapas/Hors D’ouevers Important - 44.2% 163/369
Alcohol Extremely Important - 54.1% 199/368
How much would you be willing to pay for Senior Gala? - Top 3 Choices (369 responses)
$50+ 37.1%
$60+ 23.6%
$70+ 16.3%
The top preference for Senior Gala location was a museum (no guarantees though because of pricing). There were also a bunch of great suggestions that we’ve begun looking into. However, if you have any additional suggestions or hook-ups, post and/or let us know. As usual, please feel free to respond to the conference with thoughts on survey results.

Evergreens is the name of the senior class’ student-run business. The home of the infamous Undefeated Football and MIT Men shirts, Evergreens’ niche is Wellesley merchandise that you won’t find in the bookstore. (For some good examples, check out the Class of 2007’s Evergreen’s website http://www.wellesley.edu/Activities/homepage/2007/Evergreens/)
Each year the junior class purchases Evergreens from the outgoing senior class, and the Class of 2009 has just acquired Evergreens for the upcoming year. Evergreens functions to help class council in two ways: to foster school/class spirit and to earn money to subsidize the costs of senior week for members of the senior class. Each year the costs associated with senior week are a major concern for members of the senior class, and helping with Evergreens is one way to help ensure low ticket prices.
I hope this is a helpful description, but please post if you have any questions. And please post to the Evergreens 2009 conference (a subconference of the Class of 2009 conference) if you have any ideas, designs, feedback, or anything!
Best, Samantha

Last year Class Council decided to put up a Junior Show FirstClass conference over the summer for members of the class to post ideas and start working on planning for the fall. It ended up working so well that we’ve decided to try the same idea again!
The six new subconferences are…
Evergreens 2009 - for both merchandise ideas and business strategies
Senior Week 2009 - for all of the events during senior week other than gala
Senior Gala 2009 - so big it gets it own conference
Fundraising 2009 - for all fundraising ideas
Senior Year 2009 - for events throughout the year like pub nights etc.
Pranks & Decorating - it’s never too early to start brainstorming
Everyone has access, so please feel free to post away!
Best, Samantha
